Let the Water Wars begin

Amara loves playing in water! She loves bubble baths. She loves jumping in mud puddles! She loves playing with the waves at the beach. She loves playing in the sprinklers and she LOVES being chased by Grandma and the hose. She loves getting drinks out of that hose that result in getting drenched. She loves riding down the slide into a water fall from the hose. And this years she learned she loved turning her wagon into a swimming pool or the ocean. I love playing all these games with her but I sometimes miss that I don’t get cooled off by the water, I just get hotter from chasing her.

So this year when Amara asked me what I wanted for my birthday I told her Super Soakers! And yesterday we got to try them out for the first time! We had a blast. Of course I had told her there was no way she would ever be able to get ME wet! After all I am bigger and faster — oh she got me! She got me really good a couple of times. Grandpa came out to take pictures — it is hard enough trying to “run the hose” and the camera at the same time. I knew I could never safely control my gun while trying to hang on to my camera! It left me free to focus on getting that girl wet!

Amara gets ready to slide into the water

Amara loves her swing set but it is even more fun when you add water!

Ready, Set, Go

Getting ready to slide down. No water here.

Amara and a face full of water as she slides off the slide

She loves having the water at the end of the slide but the grass gets very slippery.

Amara sits in her wagon filled with water

Who knew you could turn a wagon into a pool?

Amara floats her bath toys in the wagon

Or that if you added fish it became the ocean. Those fish kept biting her toes.

Damp long hair frames her beautiful smile

What a beautiful smile.

She loves to splash

Tidal Waves!

Getting a drink from the hose

Just a little drink Grandma.

Why is hose water so good?

Oh that is so good!

Grandma Kc blasts her in the face with water

Never trust a Grandma with a hose!

Filling the wagon back up with water

If you keep bouncing out you have to keep adding water.

Amara puffs her cheeks filled with water

Do you see that little Devil gleam in her eye?

Amara learns how to use the Super Soaker

Our first chance trying them out was late Friday afternoon.

Amara lost control of her gun

Out of control! You can tell I’ve already hit her a couple of times! She is very wet.

Time out to fill them from the hose

Filling our tanks.

Let me check and see if I need a refill

Checking her water level.

Grandma! You got me in the eye!

She really does look like Drew Barrymore

Trying to take cover on the porch.

For those of you who may be curious the Super Soaker box said they would shoot up to 25 feet and I think that was pretty close. They are a blast to play with and I highly recommend them for a great way to cool off in the summer.

  1. Now, that looks like fun! Seems to me we (you and I, that is) have done the same thing…only I was enormously pregnant at the time, and you had all of the advantages!
Thanks for the trip into the past. I needed that.

I’m actually thinking that the water war you are talking about between the 2 of us may be one of the reasons I have so much fun squirting her! And you weren’t enormously pregnant – you were HUGE!!! Jenna must have been just about Amara’s age and she had the same long hair and long legs! I know she remembers that story but I don’t think I’ve ever told it to Amara — but I will!

How come there are no pictures of how wet you got, Grama?

Looks like you both had a great time!

I am jealous, it hasn’t been even remotely warm enough for water fights here!

  5. Keith says:

My 10 year old loves it now that the pool is up. But want I want to know is why am I the main target!!!!! LOL

    Enjoy the summer.

      Hi Keith,

At least your 10 year old is willing to include you in the fun! Hope you have a great summer! Grandma Kc

  6. Annette says:

Oh, how fun! She will have such great memories from those summers.

    • Grandma Kc says:

Thank you! She is making some pretty great memories for us, too! Only bad part is she is growing up way to quickly!

  7. Connie says:

Your house is the house everyone wants to hang out at right? You are one fun Grandma for sure!

    • Grandma Kc says:

Our house is getting more traffic now that other kids are moving into our neighborhood – I love having a bunch of them running around calling me Grandma Kc. Water Wars are regular thing around here. Another advantage to southern California weather.

  8. I’m so glad you shared this post today! What great fun and what AWESOME photos. Once again you prove to be my idol! Super Soakers? Oh, yeah! My grandsons would LOVE it! Gotta add them to my list of what to get before the boys arrive for an extended stay in June.

Thanks for linking up to my inaugural GRAND Social!

  9. Joyce says:

I love how you join in the crazy fun by asking for a super soaker for yourself! Your posts always make me smile because they are full of such joy. You take simple things in life and share them with Amara in ways that are special to the two of you. Too bad every child doesn’t have a grandma like you. This sure would be a different world, wouldn’t it? Can’t wait to see more – oh, and I am SO buying super soakers for my 3 year old twin grandsons! I want the long range ones like you have!! And I am getting one for myself, too…something I would never have done before reading this post!
