Amara spent the night with us Saturday night and as always we had a blast. This week’s movie was Bright Eyes with Shirley Temple and while I don’t think it was Amara’s favorite, Grampy and I really enjoyed it! Seeing southern California, especially the Valley and the Burbank Airport in the mid thirties was kind of nostalgic in a strange way. We both moved there during the sixties and are so amazed how much it has changed from then to now and this was even more so!
But the best part was this morning. Amara’s Mommy had gotten us a pre-assembled haunted house to decorate. We hadn’t done one of these in a long time and since tomorrow is Halloween we had to do it this morning! While we had some small problems along the way, this was perfect Grandma Kc and Amara time! The first problem was our pre-assembled house had a broken roof. And while I like puzzles I could not figure out how to put the pieces back together again. I didn’t know what to do and we were trying to just put large chunks anywhere and Amara decided she would just make the broken roof part of why the house was scary. We improvised!
She loved making the purple icing.
And eating the purple icing.
Grandma Kc likes frosting!
and eating fingers!
The instructions say that the icing will not be fluffy but will be the consistency of toothpaste, which it was but have you ever tried to frost something with toothpaste? This did not daunt Amara. She decided the icing looked like it was melting and dripping down the sides of the house and that this made it even scarier!
This is Amara’s finished haunted house!
Happy Halloween Everyone!

I’ve never seen a edible haunted house. Too cute! And the improvisations just add to the effects.
Amara tried eating a bite of the broken roof – it may be edible but she only took one very small bite! But they do have gingerbread type crafts for almost every holiday; we’ve even done a bunny hutch for Easter.
I have never seen a haunted house like this ever! You two are couple of characters!! Always fun, surprising, and just plain wonderful! Thanks for the sharing!
We really are a couple of characters! Possibly just plain crazy!
The finger-eating photo is adorable! Love the relationship between you two! I hadn’t seen such houses either. Darn smart of Amara to make use of its brokenness. Happy Halloween to you both…and Grampy, too!
We really do get a little crazy and silly sometimes – wouldn’t have it any other way! Happy Halloween! Hope the goblins don’t get you!
What fun!!! Love the picture of my beautiful sister with Amara!!! Great job on the haunted house, Amara!! xoxo
I will have to print some of those pictures and send them to Mom. She kind of started it all. xoxo
How fun is that. I’ve never heard of making a haunted house like a gingerbread house. I’m tucking this idea away for future use with the granddaughters.
So, so, so cute… And not just the house. Grandma and her little Amara, too.
She was here yesterday. When she’s been around for hugging anytime you want it’s tough the next day when she isn’t.
Fun, fun, fun, broken house or not. It turned out perfectly spooky. I agree on the toothpaste-y icing make it seem even scarier. Kudos to Amara for not letting a less-than perfect package getting the best of her or a good time. Great photos of the good time.
Thank you for sharing the festive fun on the GRAND Social!
