Valentine’s Day in Amara’s classroom

Today I was a lucky Grandma and got to spend Valentine’s Day with Amara and with her Mommy, 2 of my most favorite people. I love it when it is 3 generations of us together in Amara’s classroom. I’ve said it before, we are very lucky to live so close to the kids. I am so glad we can be such an active part of Amara’s life. We are making such great memories.

Valentine's MailboxAmara is also lucky. She has a stay at home Mommy who is very involved in her class. As a special treat her Mommy had ordered foam Valentine’s mailbox kits for each of Amara’s classmates. They came complete with all kinds of stick on hearts and jewels! So the first thing the students did today was decorate their mailboxes. Mommy was in charge of this project so the teacher got a bit of a break — in fact, she decorated one for herself. Mommy had recruited a couple of other Moms and me to help with the decorating. We had so much fun! While they all started out with the same kit each mailbox turned out different and each student had fun. We had fun, too!

We left the school for a couple of hours and later went back to help with the actual party. When we got there all of the students were milling around the classroom handing out their Valentines. While they did that, we set up for the party. One of the other Moms had organized it and there were fruit platters, vegetable platters, cookies and Mommy’s awesome decorated cupcakes — Amara had helped to put the candy hearts on each one of them. They were awesome and I just love how proud Amara is of her Mommy and her great cooking skills. If you haven’t checked out Jenna’s blog, you really should! That girl can cook. I take some of the credit!

Valentine Party TableThe students all lined up so nicely for the food table. Their teacher explained that to have a cookie or a cupcake you must first eat some of the fruits and vegetables. They all did and they were all so polite. And I think it says a lot for their parents that many of the students wanted to go back for more — not of the cookies or cupcakes but of the fruits and vegetables! It was a wonderful day.

It was a special day! I don’t get this opportunity all the time so I do try and take advantage of it when I can.

This is such a sweet, cute story! I love the mail boxes! All of this brings back good memories of being a “room mother” for my 3 daughters. Those days sure gave the teacher a break when she could sit back (and eat candy!) while moms ran the games and crafts. No wonder we were so welcomed! And, I never knew that Jenna has her own blog…running right over there NOW! bye!

Jenna has JUST restarted her blog after almost a 2 year absence. She quit about a month after I wrote this post. She is the most amazing cook! I hope she goes back to blog regularly. She needs to share some of her recent crafts — again the child just amazes me!
