Grampy wears a tie to work each day. When he first started this job a few years ago Amara and her Mommy helped me pick out some new ties for him as his old ones had certainly seen better days. Amara’s Daddy doesn’t have to wear a tie to work so both Amara and her Mommy had fun helping me pick out new ones. Ties are way cooler than they used to be!
He wore ties the first year on the job. He didn’t really want to but he always did because it was in the dress code! Since NO ONE else wore them he finally quit after about a year. I can sure understand that. The AC in his car isn’t working so no tie is certainly cooler but he still wore a nice dress shirt and slacks.
Well, when his birthday came this year Amara wanted to buy him a tie and I told her he doesn’t wear them anymore. I explained the whole story to her and she says “I think Grandpa should still wear a tie because it makes him unique”. And with the exception of one day when he forgot he has worn a tie every day since I told him what she said. He loves it! She loves it!
And he looks mighty fine!!
UPDATE: 20 months later he looks even finer!!

I love it when handsome “older” men have a special trademark. My father loved pink shirts, and the ladies loved him in them. During his last illness, some visitors were teasing him about how he needed to get out of his hospital gown and back into his pink shirts, when my brother walked in–wearing a pink shirt!
That’s one handsome brother in law I have!!! I hope he keeps wearing those wonderful ties!
What a handsome and distinguished gentleman in this picture and how wonderful you are married to him!!!!! And he looks like such a nice man! What an endearing story! Thanks for sharing.
Although I think neckties are in the same category as pantyhose, uncomfortable but attractive, I must say that I love a man in a crisp white shirt and beautiful tie.
Isn’t it sweet to know what Amara will automatically think of every time she sees a tie – even when she is a grandma. So sweet.
Very handsome … and yes, unique! Amara’s on to something here. How much you wanna bet she one day falls for a man with an affinity for ties. 🙂
He does look fine. A man always looks better in a tie.
I love that we’ll do anything the kiddies ask us to! Very nice.
Popping in from Oh, Mrs. Tucker!
She absolutely has Grampy wrapped around her little finger — and he loves it!
He looks great in a tie. And, I like Amara’s reasoning that it makes him unique!
