Free Eyeballs

It all started when I sent a video to my sister Sandy and she asked me what it said on Grampy’s T-shirt. I explained it to her and I thought I would share it with everyone else. Amara needs to remember this! I’ve included some of the pictures below, too!

Flying eyeballs is kind of a joke around here. I love Grampy but sometimes he is over the top protective! “Don’t run with that in your hand — you will poke your eye out” — that kind of thing. Then after my retina problem, he made a joke about deferring to me as to whether something was “worse than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick” because I would know. When Amara was just a baby I had a partially detached retina. They put needles in my eye and filled it with this gas and it was NOT fun at all! So I am the expert on getting poked in the eye!

Then Amara starts the whole business of making Grampy bite the eyeballs (gumballs) off the ice cream bars which was another eyeballs reference. I found him another shirt that says, “It is all fun and games until somebody loses an eyeball — then flying eyeballs!” and it had two stick figures and eyeballs flying… you get the idea. Grampy wore it with pride!

And then I saw this shirt! “It is all fun and games until someone loses an eyeball, and then, HEY! FREE EYEBALLS!” Amara loves these shirts and she sure loves her Grampy!

Here are some of the pictures! Click them and make them larger because some of the looks on Grampy’s face are really funny!

That is hysterical. When we are frustrated with someone we say, “You want me to poke you in the eye?” Don’t you just love how those things get started and seem to take on a life of their own?

  2. Judy says:

    Great smiles – great memories.

  3. Sandy says:

I’m still laughing at you guys! xoxo

  4. The original saying, as I remember it from my earliest childhood in Arkansas, is “Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stob”. Seriously, don’t run with sharp things and don’t jump off of things.

  5. Oh, I am so with Grampy on the poking one’s eye out. I even worry about kids leaning in to drink from a glass with a straw in it as I’m just SURE they won’t gauge the distance correctly and poke themselves in the eye with the darn straw. I don’t like pokey things!

I do love this post, though. So cute, the times Grampy and Amara have. Plus, I think “Grampy Chokes and Amara Grins” would be a great post title. :D

Oh you just had to give him one more thing to worry about! Amara puts straws in oranges from the backyard – he will likely freak out the next time she does that. Thanks Lisa!

He is a great sport for sure!
That detached retina thing…gave me the shivers.

Let me just take this moment to get on my little soapbox and preach “always get a second opinion!” I went to my own eye doctor who I had been seeing for over 15 years because I was having problems with what she diagnosed to be “simple floaters”. I went back to her 2 months later when they continued to get worse and again I had no problem other than getting old. SO I made an appointment with an Ophthalmologist and found out I had a large detachment. The moral of the story is that it could have been much worse had I not gotten that second opinion.

Very cute post! I love pics of Amara and her grandpa. You know, we grandmas sometimes dominate this grandparenting thing. I love seeing grandpas who are involved as well!

This is HILARIOUS! I cannot believe how you found the perfect shirts to match your private family joke! Every time I read one of your posts, I sit here smiling and ALWAYS think the exact same thing. Bear with me, please, I’ve said it several times before! Here goes: if EVERY child was surrounded with the circle of love that Amara has, this would certainly be a different world. Amaraland is a good, good place to be!

Ok so my favorite is the battering ram! :) As to finding those shirts now that’s amazing. As well as hysterical!

  10. Penny says:

Great fun! And I could use some spare eyeballs right about now — after an “eye” procedure.

Thanks for Visiting AmaraLand!

Please make Grandma Kc's Day and let her know you were here!
