So Friday was the Jog-a-thon and lucky me, I got to be there! The temp job that I had been working ended two days before the big event. Talk about perfect timing! When I told Amara that I was going to be able to go she was so excited! “That’s great Grandma, because last year they played the Sponge Bob song right after you left”. The year before I had been temping and had to leave early, I’d missed the song. Amara and I have always watched Sponge Bob together and Bob does hold a special place in my heart. Amara was so excited she even told her friends I was going to be there. I got to witness that telling when I took her to school Thursday with Jenna, something I had really been looking forward to doing again. I love when the two of us take Amara to school because it also means quality alone time with Jenna after we drop her off.
Jenna was planning to spend the entire day at the school Friday. I opted for coming around noon, which would be before Amara’s group. Jenna had called me and asked me to stop by her house and pick up her spare camera battery off the charger where she had left it and meet her on the field. When I got there, Jenna was running around doing PTA things and was absolutely fried! It was about 80 degrees out and Jenna had not put on sunscreen. I guess she hadn’t really noticed and no one else said anything. Thankfully, she went and put some on but much of the damage had already been done! You should have seen her Sunday.
I got there thinking that I was going to get to watch Amara’s class and the other five 2nd grade classes jog. I came equipped with my camera and my new Flip video camera (love it!) and figured I would just be there and take lots of pictures and cheer them on. Seems Jenna had volunteered me to help mark off laps! I could not take pictures or videos but I did have a blast!!!!
They talked me into marking laps for the 6th and 7th graders who were next. I was really impressed by how well behaved and how nice most of these 6th and 7th graders were! You hear stories, you remember things! These were good kids and all of the students gave it a good effort.
It was a wonderful day with my two favorite girls!

I just love being around children this age and I am glad you could report a nice day. Sometimes kids that age (6th and 7th graders) get a bad rap, when in reality they are still children and usually when met with respect, give it right back.
Adorable picture of you and Amara. Love both of your shirts!
What a wonderful sharing that you girls had! I also love the photo of you and Amara! Sounded like another memorable event shared by all! Thanks for sharing!

All to fleeting huh, those sweet girl days. It looked like a big time.
Love the action shot. Mine would have just been a blur. Good job all.
I’m always amazed at how many people think that kids today are a bunch of hooligans. When I visit the schools, I see a lot of high spirits, along with intellectual curiosity and drive to succeed. I see very little hooliganism. I always leave encouraged about the future.
It sounds like it was a wonderful day! So glad you could be there to join in on the fun!
Awww, how grand! Over the years, I’ve also gotten to enjoy a couple of a-thons with grandkids, along with various sports like volleyball and basketball. VERY fun, indeed.
Some of my fondest memories are days spent working at our elementary school’s field days. I hope I get to do some for our Princesses.
Your daughter sounds like mine! She asks me along to watch kids and next thing I know I’m doing all kinds of stuff! I’ve learned to wear doable shoes, keep my sunglasses and a hairclip on me. At the ballet recital, I was doing hair and makeup for little girls whose Mom had dropped them off! I was so apppalled…since they’re all 4-5 years old! Tracy had to remind me to keep my lip zipped! LOL
Amara appears to have a great running stride! She gets lots of outdoor exercise, doesn’t she? And always a smile on her sweet face!

You did get some pretty great photos, even with the marking laps gig. I think it’s so wonderful that you and Jenna are able to help out so much with Amara’s events. I’m sure she just LOVES showing you guys off, too. Good stuff!
