A Popsicle Party

The phone rang the other morning and it was Jenna. It is usually Jenna and I do consider myself lucky that my daughter want to call me all the time. It wasn’t always that way. “Do you want to go to a Popsicle Party with Amara’s class?” Well of course, I want to go. Who wouldn’t? But what is the occasion?

Notice Amara holding her Medal

Jenna and Monique (the PTA co-presidents) had spent the morning going to each class and awarding a medal to the student in that classroom who had raised the most funds for Jog-a-thon! Amara’s class had raised the most money and in fact, our awesome girl raised the most money of any one individual in the school! Jenna had been instrumental in establishing an online pledge system and being able to include family and friends that aren’t close by made it easier for the Jog-a-thon to be such a success. Go Jenna!

So as a reward for being the class that raised the most the PTA was treating them to Popsicles! I got to go help hand them out and take lots of pictures! We even got some great class pictures – although trying to corral 30 sugar rushing 3rd graders was a challenge! I can’t share those pictures but I can share these!

Congratulations to all the students but especially to Mrs. J’s class and Amara.

I love it when kids are taught at an early age to make an effort on behalf of someone else. Competition and prizes are a great way to get the idea started – after that it just becomes part of their young characters to share what they have and encourage others to do the same. Now that Jenna – what a “go-getter” she is! And, hmmm, I wonder where THAT desirable trait came from….????

For those of us who can’t be there for those fun times, it warms my heart that you JUMPED at the chance.

A Popsicle party- aren’t popsicles the easiest way to fun and smiles?
As a teacher, I’m so grateful to those parents who bring in the funds for some very important extras, as well as give their time. Love!
