Happy Blogiversary to AmaraLand

Today, January 19, 2013 is the anniversary of AmaraLand the blog. It was three years ago today that I published my first blog post. While AmaraLand as a blog is only three years old it first became a website in April of 2006.

When Amara was only a few months old, her Grandpa made some joke about the world of AmaraLand — we had seen some special about the Hollywood Sign. Did you know it used to say Hollywoodland? It was about this same time that I decided to take a Dreamweaver class so I purchased the domain name Amaraland.com. I built that first website when she was 2 years old. It was just a lot of photos with cute text.

Then three years ago, I started taking another class. This time it was a class in WordPress and the instructor said we needed to blog about something we were passionate about and that we wouldn’t lose interest in quickly. There really didn’t seem to be any other choice so I decided to turn AmaraLand into a blog. You can read that first post I wrote here. It is still one of my favorite posts and I still feel the same way.

In April of 2011 AmaraLand got its current look. I took another class! This time building WordPress themes. It was part of my birthday gift to her that year and this time I let her pick out the colors and give input on how it would look. I’m thinking of doing it again soon!

Looking back over the last three years it is amazing how much she has grown and how much fun all of us have had together. Amara has done so well in school making honor roll every trimester so far. She has starred in plays, she has designed t-shirts for the jog-a-thon, she has sung in school performances and so much more. She loves her art and her Tae Kwon Do lessons. And don’t forget her dolls! The best part is we have gotten to be there to enjoy it all.

We’ve had lots of fun here at home, too. Since I started blogging, we have had three wonderful birthday parties here. We’ve also had lots of fun playing in the water in the front yard and playing on the swing set in the backyard. Amara and I have had so much fun cooking together and doing fun crafts. It really has been a wonderful three years. I am so glad we live close to her and get to be such a big part of her life and I sure look forward to many more years to come!

Congratulations on three delightful years of blogging and putting smiles on the faces of your readers! I am one of many who has ejoyed seeing that beautiful child grow. Her successes are a reflection of the loving parenting and grandparenting she is thriving on! I think the day will come (not to be seriously pushy or anything!) that we will meet Amara’s own newborn child on these pages! What a legacy you have created for her here!
Oh, and you have made some wonderful grandma friends for yourself along the way! (Like me!)

The next best part is we get to revisit all the great times because they are preserved in Amaraland. Neverland has a lot going for it; flying and you never get old, but I pity the fool who prefers it over Amaraland – it doesn’t have Amara!!!

Looking back over the last three years, it is also amazing how much you have grown! The key to staying young is learning, and you keep finding new worlds to master, as your post demonstrates. May you have many more years of blogging. I can’t wait to follow Amara through high school and college!

I know it’s a labor of love for you, Kc, but you make Amaraland what it is. A wonderful place to just be a kid and smile and feel in your heart the joy of loving and being loved. You & Grampy are what every grandchild should have. You have made so many wonderful memories – and I’m looking forward to all the new memories to come!! xoxo
