Jenna the Super Mom

You may have seen me bragging about this over on Facebook but just in case you missed it, let me tell you that Jenna was just voted Parent of the Year for 2014-2015 at Amara’s school. We have all known that she is a great Mom, daughter, wife, friend and everything else but as Jenna put it so perfectly, “It is an honor just to be nominated, but it’s totally awesome to win too!” I am thrilled she got this much-deserved recognition.

She really does so much at Amara’s school and is loved and respected by students, parents, teachers and administration. One teacher even mentioned that Jenna and Justin needed to have more children so that they could keep them both around after Amara leaves the school. She is always a familiar face on campus and knows many of the students by name. They will all run to give her hugs or to get her advice. There have been many times when Jenna and I are at Target and a parent will approach her with “Don’t you work at the school?” They are always surprised when she tells them she just volunteers and no she isn’t paid. She is just doing what she loves to do and doing it very well.

Jenna as a Super Reader

I certainly don’t give my mother credit for who I am and I don’t take any credit for the amazing person that Jenna has turned out to be either. But she certainly is amazing and we are all very proud of her.

P.S. I want a bumper sticker that says, “My daughter is Parent of the Year at Santiago Elementary”.

You see bumper stickers all the time that say “My Student was (fill in the blank)”. I tried Googling a place to get one but everyone wants a minimum of 25 bumper stickers and I certainly don’t have 25 cars! But it would be the best bumper sticker ever!

Oh my goodness! What a fun bumper sticker that would be!
But seriously, what better honor for a mom than to be recognized for modeling the importance of education, character and service to not only her own child, but to so many others. As a faithful reader here, I have watched Jenna put her gracious touch on so many exciting school activities. You’ve been right there with her, offering encouragement, ideas and assistance. Your entire family is an example of how teamwork produces successful children. Amara is so fortunate!

I am so proud of the person that Jenna is and I am so glad she found Justin to share her life with and that Amara picked them as parents!! It has made my life so much better to see her so strong and so happy. The school is really going to miss her when the time comes for Amara to go somewhere else!

I have similar pictures of her being hugged by groups of upper graders but I don’t have permission to share those. She really relates to all of them and I do feel very lucky to have gotten her for a daughter!

I am so proud of all of the things Jenna does for the school — Justin, too. I really think it makes children understand the importance of an education if you get involved.

I love walking on campus with her and watching all the students give her hugs or wave and she knows almost all of their names. She is a very giving person.

We did not do lunch and we really should. Her best friend Mo is throwing her a huge party and I can’t wait to go to that!

I’m really proud of the positive influence she has had on so many of the students – especially some of the upper graders who look at her as “The Cool Mom”. They come to her for advice and they know she really cares. She has sure got a big heart.

I often have a parent and sometimes two that I’d like to give a bumper sticker to. Good parent volunteers are a teacher’s precious gift. And you do miss them terribly when they are gone. Sweet.

Amara is a great student and I know the teachers look forward to having her in their class but I think they look forward to having Jenna just as much!

I love this! What an honor! I can only imagine how proud Amara must be of her mom. That is so wonderful that Jenna is able to spend time in the school not only with Amara, but obviously making an impact on the other students and teachers. And i love the bumper sticker idea too 🙂
